On Sunday, Feb. 13, 2023, the Kansas City Chiefs took home their third Super Bowl championship. With a score of 38–35, the red kingdom was able to celebrate another victory, following their last championship in 2020.

People all around the country tuned in to watch the game and root for their favorite team. With Missouri Western being home to Chiefs Training Camp and an hour away from Kansas City, lots were excited with the outcome.

“The stream that I was watching was a little bit slower than the rest,” student Farisha Radzi said. “So when they won, I just heard fireworks and people screaming outside. Then we saw that they actually won. It was really overwhelming and really exciting because in the first half I was like ‘oh my god I hope we don’t lose’ but the comeback was really good.”

Pam Williamson works in the food court on campus and recalled the first time the Chiefs won in 1970.

“I don’t remember everything about it but I remember when the Chief’s won their first one,” Williamson said. “I was also here in 2020 when they won their second one. We were all really excited but didn’t get to see them for training camp because of COVID.”

With restaurants and bars packed with fans, the dorms on campus were also a popular place to get together and watch the game. In true Chief’s fashion, the last few seconds of the game were a nailbiter as well.

“When they went for the field goal with three seconds left, he scored and made it,” student Cameron Harris said. “All you hear is the whole dorm with everybody yelling. I knew we won when my suitemate started screaming because his scream was about ten seconds faster than ours, so I knew I had nothing to worry about.”

Following the win, Kansas City will be hosting the victory parade on Wednesday, Feb. 15 with the rally beginning at 1:45 p.m.

“Being from Kansas City, a Chiefs win means parades and barbecues.” Harris said. “I know my mom is about to barbecue too. We just kick it.”
